Wall Street Journal Recognizes Charlotte’s Brightcast in ‘MeMail’ Article
Charlotte-based technology company receives national coverage of its Brandsmit Email Branding product
In her May 18, 2007, Wall Street Journal article, columnist Katherine Rosman examines “The Rise of ‘MeMail,’” the growing trend of personalizing e-mail messages with pictures, text, and/or various media content.
Rosman notes that, while MeMail initially began as individuals dressing up their e-mail signature lines with pithy quotes or cutesy avatars, it has become a massive phenomenon, with everyone from corporate marketers to political activists attaching sophisticated, targeted content—ranging from corporate logos to track-able Web links—to their outgoing e-mail as a new way to deliver their message to the masses.
Featured in the piece is Charlotte-based technology firm Brightcast. Founded in 2005, Brightcast provides affordable, custom, digital video production for business and non-profit clients. In addition, Brightcast provides delivery of its original video content through various Web-based technologies and products.
One product specifically referenced in the article is Brightcast’s Brandsmit E-Mail Branding product, an e-mail add-in that “transmits your brand” through custom-designed e-mail letterhead. Brandsmit letterhead—which typically features a company’s logo, marketing slogan, as well as a clickable button graphic that invites recipients to play a video about that company—is affixed automatically to every e-mail message that Brandsmit subscribers send out. Subscribers also can opt to rotate various custom header designs to showcase various products, services, personnel, video content, and more.
Since late 2006, Brightcast has signed on forty subscribers to the service.
One such subscriber is Jason Bessire, President of Bessire & Associates, a Charlotte-based recruiting firm that specializes in placement of sales talent. Bessire recently commented upon the impact of Brightcast’s Brandsmit E-mail Branding product and Brightcast’s video services on his business.
“Now, our clients can hear our story of ‘providing solutions for sales recruitment/the alternative to head hunters,’ directly from me, firsthand, and then decide if our service is right for them,” notes Bessire. “I often hear from clients that our Brightcast video really helps them make the decision to go with Bessire…I would go on record that our business has increased at least 15 percent, due to the use of this product, and certainly has stepped up our image, too.”
